چکیده

1. Introduction The evaluation of tree root biomass is significant and difficult to survey accurately. Traditional approach used for roots biomass harvest (e.g., soil cores and trenches) provide reasonable accurate information but they are destructive in nature, labour intensive, and limited whit respect to soil volume and surface area that can be assessed. Data derived from traditional root extraction approaches are also generally limited to root biomass averages across plots or treatments rather than information on root distribution. Sampling needed to detect difference among treatments can be expensive as well as time consuming for technical personal. For the above reason test and develop new indirect tools for roots biomass survey appears of leading importance.

Building damage caused by tree roots: laboratory experiments of GPR and ERT surveys

The root growth of trees close to buildings can cause directly or indirectly structural damages and the necessity arises of diagnostic tools to follow their time-spatial behaviour. In this framework, sensing techniques as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) are of relevant interest since they allow in principle the detection and identification of roots in ...

Time-lapse geophysical investigations over a simulated urban clandestine grave.

A simulated clandestine shallow grave was created within a heterogeneous, made-ground, urban environment where a clothed, plastic resin, human skeleton, animal products, and physiological saline were placed in anatomically correct positions and re-covered to ground level. A series of repeat (time-lapse), near-surface geophysical surveys were undertaken: (1) prior to burial (to act as control), ...

Evaluation of Geophysical methods for identifying hidden Quaternary faults in alluvial sediments (case study: Chitgar Park)

Abstract In this research, Geophysical methods Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) and Geoelectric have been used to detect hidden Quaternary faults in alluvial sediments located southwest of Chitgar Forest Park (District 22 of Tehran). The study of profiles (GPR) identified areas such as fault. The results obtained from two Geoelectric profiles indicate that there are two zones with low electrical...

Utility of Ground-Penetrating Radar as a Root Biomass Survey Tool in Forest Systems

Traditional methods o f measuring tree root biomass are labor intensive and destructive in nature. We studied the utility of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to measure tree root biomass in situ within a replicated, intensive culture forestry experiment planted with loblolly pine (Pinus tneda L.). The study site was located in Decatur County, Georgia, in an area of the Troup and Lucy (loamy, kaol...

Detecting oil contamination by Ground Penetrating Radar around an oil storage facility in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India

the subsoil and groundwater were suspected to be polluted by leakage from underground tanks around the oil storage facility in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India. to delineate the seepage zone, integrated geophysical methods comprising Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and 2D electrical Resistivity Imaging (eRI) methods were employed over the suspected zone and in the close vicinity. the studies were condu...
